Benefitting from a most prestigious patrimony, the French National Horse-Riding School established itself around the Cadre Noir of Saumur in 1972. Located in the Pays de la Loire region, the School’s ambition is to become the primary center for horsemanship in France (Pole France). The Ecuyers (riding instructors) belong to the Cadre Noir of Saumur and are the actual teaching staff at the French National Horse-Riding School who are responsible for training and perfecting the horse-riding elite.

Origins of the School

At the end of the 16th century, Duplessis Mornay founded a Protestant university in Saumur, where there was also an equestrian academy directed by Monsieur de Saint-Vual.

The School’s missions

Created in 1972, the French National Horse-Riding School trains the most elite riders. Backed by a research programme and documentation center, the Cadre Noir, the teaching body of this school contributes fully to the widespread renown of French horsemanship.

The Ecuyers of the Cadre Noir

The Cadre Noir of Saumur represents the complete teaching staff for the French National Horse-Riding School. True experts in their discipline, the Ecuyers’ aim is to pass on their technical and theoretical knowledge.

They train the horses, which are then presented in the Dressage or in the Jumper School, and also in national and international competitions. In addition, they prepare the horses to be used for future training of equestrian students.
