ESSENTIALS

Chateau of Cheverny

A mythical château

The splendid interior decoration of the château is the work of a craftsman from Blois named Jean Monier. He had been a beneficiary of Marie de’ Medici who sent him to Italy in order to perfect his talent. Upon his return, Marie de’ Medici hired him to work on the Palace of Luxembourg. After its completion, he returned to his hometown of Blois where he was crowned with well-deserved success. He was then called upon to exert his talent at Cheverny.

HIDDEN TREASURE

 Natures Duo

Nature’s Duo

The Château of Cheverny interestingly appears to be poised on an ocean of perfectly kept lawns.

The "Apprentices’ Garden" was created in 2006, and it stretches all the way from the château to the orangery. It was built in a contemporary design between cultivated structures that are placed along a central axis, and it progresses like a colourful serpent wandering playfully along the borders.

In the kitchen garden you will find the flowers that are used to decorate the château. It is a very colourful garden that resembles a bouquet spreading to the sky; one thousand and one flowers mingling with a wide variety of vegetables.

Did you know ?

The Château of Cheverny was used as a model for Hergé, who drew the Château of Moulinsart by suppressing the two wings. The permanent exhibition "The Secrets of Moulinsart" reveals the events that took place at the château in a life-size experience.
