Step into the fairy-tale world of a royal château whose history finds itself closely merged with that of France, especially during the flourishing Rennaissance period (late 15th and 16th centuries).
Just follow the destiny of the sovereigns and their favorites at the Valois Court and discover the richness of the apartments in this palace, so highly appreciated by the kings of France up to Henri II.
Charles VIII was born at Amboise. François I arrived at the age of 4 and spent his childhood here. Several ladies of influence left their imprint here too. For example: Anne of Brittany, Louise de Savoie, and Catherine de’ Medici. The Court of Amboise equally attracted a number of men of letters and artists like Ronsard, Du Bellay, and the famous Leonardo da Vinci. Over the centuries, a number of prestigious people stayed here too: Emperor Charles Quint, King Louis XIV, the future king of Spain Philippe V, Emperor Napoleon III, and Emir Abd el-Kader. Alone or in a group, the Royal Château of Amboise invites you to visit the Royal House, and the exceptional collections of Gothic and Renaissance furniture, a way to discover refinement the French way!
Whether as an individual or in a group, you can have access during the day to the Royal House all throughout the year. You will also have access to Saint-Hubert’s chapel where Leonardo da Vinci’s tomb lies, and to the Mediterranean gardens which offer a superb panoramic view over the Loire, registered among Unesco’s world heritage sites.
The individual visitor will discover at his own rhythm the Château and its gardens by means of an explanatory leaflet. This leaflet is available in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Hungarian, Czech, Romanian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (traditional and simplified). The guided visits are in French (and in Italian in August) organized continually throughout the day, depending on the number of visitors.
