The Château du Rivau rosery is unlike any other, because here all the roses have been specially chosen for their fragrances. This original idea has led to the creation of a unique conservatory entirely dedicated to the scented rose. The gardens feature a collection of 450 rose varieties, recognised by the CCVA (Conservatory for Specialist Plant Collections). From May onwards, a festival for the senses commences, allowing visitors to discover the subtleties of each flower’s delicate perfume. You’ll be captivated by the scent of tea and myrrh from The Pilgrim, notes of white wine from Jude the Obscure, the musky perfume of Queen of Sweden and the fruity notes of Lady Emma Hamilton. The famous rose grower André Ève even created a new rose especially for this noble estate and named it ‘Château du Rivau’ in the castle’s honour. Ever since, a creeper of white roses with golden stamen has decorated the ancient ramparts, giving off a delicate scent of green apple. Each year in this kingdom of petals, Rose Days are celebrated with romantic trails and creative workshops. A real paradise for rose lovers.
