Ile de la Folie – Chaumont-sur-Loire

At the foot of the Château of Chaumont-sur-Loire, the Ile de la Folie is a real arboretum where soft and hardwood trees mingle. The beaver gnaws away at them, using them for food, the woodpeckers, green or black, make their homes in them. A large number of insects, like rose chafers, copper-green in colour, whose larvae feed on rotting wood can be spotted. To discover the site, there are two trails to guide you, as in fact this isle only becomes an isle during the winter’s high-water levels.

Domain of Vaucorneilles – Onzain

The Domain of Vaucorneilles stretches across nearly 14 hectares on some of the very best wine-producing soils around the village of Onzain. Managed according to Terra Vitis principles (observe and respect in order to produce), the domain produces AOC Touraine-Mesland (white, red, rosé) wines, AOC Touraine (white, red) wines, traditional method.

Tufa quarry and underground town – Bourré

Tufa used to be the building material for the châteaux of the Loire and this led to the formation of the picturesque troglodyte village of Bourré. Visit the underground town: carved in the rock, at the furthest extremity of a gallery is the incredible reproduction of an underground town to give us a lasting image of a 19th century village. You will find out how this stone is extracted and about its original qualities, becoming harder and whiter in contact with air, discovering at the same time the amazing universe of stone extractors and stone cutters in the past.

Loire by bike itinerary

A whole new stretch of cycle track now connects the villages of Candé-sur-Beuvron and Rilly-sur-Loire. From Candé-sur-Beuvron, you follow the Beuvron and the Cosson until you reach the Loire. The itinerary crosses the forest as far as the Château of Chaumont-sur-Loire where a stop is necessary to admire the domain and the château overlooking the Loire. Throughout the year, the works of numerous artists are on display here from May to October. You will also find astonishing artistic landscape creations which are part of the International Garden Festival that can also be admired. After this stop, just a few turns of the pedal and you will be at Rilly-sur-Loire, the doorway to Touraine.
