This gigantic construction made of granite and white tufa is the last château on the banks of the Loire River before reaching the ocean. Its remarkable 15th and 17th century buildings will take you on a magical voyage into the heart of a past time. A testament to the history of both Nantes and Brittany, the Château of the Dukes of Brittany represents an exceptional heritage site right in the centre of the town. Classified as a historical monument since 1862, the fortress surrounds a 15th century ducal residence of Renaissance inspiration (the work of Duke François II and his daughter, Anne of Brittany).

Classified as a historical monument, the fortress and palace bear testimony to both its past and its architectural wealth. It was originally designed to be a military fortress for defence, and it is located in the heart of the town.

The machines of the isle of Nantes

Worthy heirs of Leonardo da Vinci and Jules Verne, the Machines of the Isle have been in the news since the summer of 2007. Come and dream at the elephant’s feet: 12 metres high, 40 tonnes of steel and wood... It can take around thirty passengers on board for a walk along the Loire, both inside the stomach cavity and on its back. The Machine Gallery (laboratory and exhibition combined) puts these fabulous dreamlike machines on stage with the help of artist-operators setting them in motion for to help tell their story. At the heart of these vessels is the workshop where these machines are created, as well as the dream shop where they come to life. And both are open for you to come discover!
